Eddie Hearn delivers daring Oleksandr Usyk vs Deontay Wilder verdict
Eddie Hearn believes that Oleksandr Usyk won’t lose a round to Deontay Wilder if the pair square off in the ring. With an undisputed fight against Tyson Fury seemingly off the table, Usyk has revealed that he would like to face The Bronze Bomber next.
Fury and Usyk were initially in talks to fight in the coming months but after the Ukrainian ruled himself out of action until 2023, The Gypsy King – keen to fight at the back end of this year – pursued Anthony Joshua for an all-British showdown instead
Both men are now expected to do battle on December 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales with personal terms being agreed upon by both parties including a rematch clause that would cause further delay to the undisputed fight.
Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas backed up his fighter’s proposal by telling Ring Magazine that they will not be “chasing Tyson Fury” and that the unified heavyweight champion will return in early 2023 against the winner of Wilder vs Robert Helenius on October 15.
Wilder has been out of action since his brutal knockout loss to Fury in the pair’s third outing 11 months ago. Many had believed that the American would never fight again after suffering such a devastating defeat but sure enough, the prolific puncher is back.
He had initially talked up a fight with Andy Ruiz Jr in a WBC final eliminator following the Mexican’s victory over Luis Ortiz but would likely prefer a direct shot at Usyk’s WBA (super), IBF, and WBO titles if the opportunity presents itself.
