Eddie Jordan hopes for Michael Schumacher F1 ‘miracle’

Eddie Jordan is wishing for Michael Schumacher to make a “miracle” recovery as he spoke out about his stricken pal. The seven-time champion’s former team principal says the icon is receiving “unbelievable” care as he praised doctors and nurses for scientific breakthroughs.

Jordan made the comments when asked whether it was possible F1 would ever see Schumacher – the father of Mercedes reserve driver Mick who drove for Haas last year – in the paddock ever again.

Speaking at London Luxury Afloat, Jordan told Express Sport: “Do you know that would be an absolute miracle but it would also be a dream. Nonetheless you have to be realistic and there are people in science and people in medicine who are making the most unbelievable.”

Schumacher continues his rehabilitation at home after suffering a brain injury in a skiing accident almost a decade ago. Few details have emerged on the F1 icon’s condition due to his family’s strict wishes for privacy.

But, the German is understood to have gone through pioneering stem cell treatment in a bid to improve his quality of life. Jordan accepted it was “difficult to see” Schumacher making a proper recovery but stressed there is always “hope” things could improve.

Jordan added: “Medicine is improving. I cannot tell you what the answer to Michael Schumacher is but it’s a very, very long time, getting on nearly 10 years now, that he’s been in the position that he’s in at the moment.

“So from a person whose knowledge of medicine is a normal person’s knowledge it’s difficult to see it. I would hope beyond hope that it could happen and think while there’s hope and belief in the world then anything is possible.”

Jordan is famed for giving Schumacher his chance in F1 after signing the young German to replace Bertrand Gachot at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. However, last month the Irishman admitted he was denied access to visit his ex-driver over privacy fears.

Earlier this year, Jordan also suggested Schumacher was “there but not there”, echoing previous remarks from the F1 star’s wife. Despite calls for privacy, Corinna claimed Schumacher was only there to a “lesser extent” for filmmakers of the Schumacher documentary.

She said: “I miss Michael every day. But it’s not just me who misses him. It’s the children, the family, his father, everyone around him. Everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here – different, but here. He still shows me how strong he is every day.”
