If your current smartphone contract has come to an end then switching to a SIM-only plan can save some serious money. These contracts allow you to pay for calls, texts and data without any fees for the phone itself – that makes them a much cheaper option.
As you’re probably aware, when you buy a handset on a 24-month deal a large chunk of the monthly payments go towards the iPhone or Android device. Once the two years are up the phone is yours but you’ll still pay the same inflated price unless you call your network and switch over to a standard pay monthly SIM.
For anyone who has finished their contract, or simply paid for the phone outright in the first place, there are some good deals available right now from all the main networks.
EE has just upped its game with customers currently able to get a whopping 150GB of data for just £20. Until recently, the same price only offered 120GB so the network is giving away an extra 30GB right now.
This SIM features free calls and texts plus there’s full access to 5G which allows anyone with a new 5G-ready smartphone to access downloads at speeds in excess of 300Mbps when away from their fixed-line broadband.
Vodafone’s deal also includes access to 5G data speeds plus there are free calls and texts. You will need to sign on the dotted line for 24 months so make sure you’re happy with a two-year deal before agreeing.
Of course, neither of these deals offer unlimited data and to get something similar on price your best bet is Three. The network has its totally unlimited SIM for £18 per month which means you can stream all day and night without fear that you’ll run out of internet access.
This Three SIM includes unlimited call and texts plus you get access to its Go Roam feature which allows you to use your phone in over 70 countries.
Finally, if you don’t need all that data, Three has also cut the price of its 8GB SIM which now costs £5 per month for the first six months of the deal.
