Elon Musk could be aiming for a James Bond-style Tesla Cybertruck, here’s how – Times of India
In a recent tweet, Tesla CEO Elon Musk opened up on another terrain-crossing possibility of the Cybertruck, that of it being used like a boat. Elon Musk seemed certain that the Cybertruck could briefly function as a boat too on account of it being “waterproof enough to serve as a boat.”
“Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy.”, said Musk in the tweet.

So it could be an amphibious vehicle? It looks like it will be one. Why the Cybertruck is being made waterproof this way could be due to the fact that it may be required to travel from Starbase — a SpaceX facility located at Boca Chica, Texas — to South Padre Island, for which the vehicle has to cross the channel, something which Musk mentioned in a follow-up tweet.
If the upcoming version of the Cybertruck is going to be a waterproof one, can we hope for a Cybertruck that can not only float on the surface of the water but plunge deep inside too, like a submarine? Like how Roger Moore’s car does in the 1977 James Bond film ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’? Elon Musk certainly looks like the kind of inventor who may like to think along those lines.
When Elon Musk unveiled the Cybertruck for the first time in 2019, it caught everyone’s attention at the unveiling ceremony. But during the presentation, the window glass of the Cybertruck couldn’t hold its own against a single strike by a sledgehammer, though the body of the truck could. In spite of the glaring failure with the durability of the glass, Tesla got orders in bulk from the Dubai Police for the Cybertruck. But Musk has tried to be realistic about the commercial success of the vehicle and in one of the older tweets, said that “there is always some chance that Cybertruck will flop because it is so unlike anything else.”
Back in November 2019, when the Cybertruck was first unveiled, it was said to go into production from late 2021. There was also a tri-motor AWD version of the vehicle, which was expected go into production in late 2022. Several prototypes of the futuristuc vehicle have appeared after the unveiling, but Tesla has not been able go for the launch owing to repeated delays in production.
