The Twitter CEO issued an open challenge to bots and trolls on the platform to “attack” him. He posted two emojis representing bots and trolls in a Twitter thread. After a 20-minute pause, the billionaire said, “Cool, the bots are so far unable to swarm to the top of my replies!”
Soon after Elon Musk’s second tweet, Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus joined the thread claiming that he made a test post and “instead of seeing 50 bot replies, only saw one.” The development comes soon after Markus asked Musk if all bots are “dead” and Musk said “mostly.”
Twitter removing bots, prosecuting scammers
Musk also said that Twitter is working to remove bots as soon as they show up. “They will try other methods [to comment/ tweet], but we’re shutting them down as soon as they show up. Twitter will also be moving to prosecute scammers anywhere on Earth,” the entrepreneur said in a post.
Bot accounts: A deal-breaker
Twitter having bot accounts was one of the main reasons why Elon Musk wanted to call-off the deal. He asked the previous Twitter C-suit to declare what percentage of total accounts are bots.
A “bot” or “spam” or “fake account,” refers to an inauthentic account that has been generated to imitate people and publish information automatically. While bots are generated automatically, spam accounts are operated by people.
Twitter to purge 1.5 billion accounts
The development comes a few days after Musk announced that Twitter would soon start deleting 1.5 billion accounts that have been inactive for years. He says these accounts have not tweeted and/or logged in for years and the purging of these accounts will also free up the namespace.
