Elon Musk to Twitter co-founder: Too many ‘angry birds’ at Twitter – Times of India
Former Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey has ben quite vocal about the happenings at the social media platform. First, Dorsey apologised and took some responsibility for all the mass layoffs that have taken place at the company he founded. And quite recently he was involved in an exchange of words with new Twitter CEO Elon Musk.
Musk, in a tweet, said that the mission of Twitter is to “become by far the most accurate source of information about the world. That’s our mission.” Dorsey asked Musk “accurate to who”. Musk promptly replied, “As judged by the people of Twitter via Community Notes (formerly Birdwatch)”.
What is Birdwatch?
Birdwatch is a pilot program that was started by Twitter to curtail misinformation on the social media platform. With this feature, a select few users can collaboratively add helpful notes to tweets that might be misleading.
Musk has changed the name of Birdwatch to Community Notes, which evoked a strong reply from Dorsey, who said that “I still think…Birdwatch is a far better name . And “more informative” a far better goal.”
The new Twitter owner said that Birdwatch gave me “creeps” to which Dorsey took a dig at Facebook and Musk. “Community notes is the most boring Facebook name ever,” said the former Twitter CEO.
Musk said that “Not everything needs to have “bird” in the name! Too many bird groups fighting each internally other at Twitter. Angry Birds.”
Dorsey was adamant that Community Notes isn’t the right name while agreeing that not everything should have bird in the name. “Agree, but that wasn’t reason for the name. Descriptive is always better, but don’t think “community” or “notes” is the right descriptor,” he said in a tweet.
