Elon Musk wants to make Twitter ‘The Everything App’: Here are the details – Times of India

Elon Musk is giving Twitter a makeover. He wants features and services to work in a different way than they were before. In short, he seeks to make the social media platform to become “The Everything App” and to make that, the new owner of the microblogging website recently presented a slideshow during a company talk. Musk shared a few slides on Twitter and they give us a brief idea of what “Twitter 2.0” could be.
Twitter 2.0: Jobs, new users and more active minutes
In the first slide, Musk announced that the company is now recruiting. While the Tesla Chief did not mention the posts that he is looking to fill in, it seems a positive step, especially when the company fired over 50% of its staff earlier this month.
The slide also mentions that Twitter has seen an exponential rise in new user signups and they are “at an all-time high.” He claims that new signups averaged “over 2 million per day in the last 7 days” – which is a “66% increase” as compared to the same week last year. The numbers included the data of the week preceding November 16. He recently claimed that Twitter added 1.6 million daily active users (DAUs) dubbing it “another all-time high” record.

The third data highlighted in the slide is an all-time high user active minutes. He claimed that Twitter saw an “average 8 billion user active minutes per day in the last 7 days (before November 15)” and registered an increase of 30% as compared to the active minutes in the same week a year ago.
Twitter 2.0: Decline in hate speech and impersonation
Elon Musk claimed that hate speech impressions were down on Twitter. He recently said that “hate speech impressions [are] down by 1/3 from pre-spike levels.”
The Tesla CEO claimed that Twitter saw a spike in hate speech in October with 10 million impressions. The hate speech impressions are claimed to have fallen to roughly 2.5 million in November. Musk also claimed that there were 1500 accounts that were responsible for causing the spike in hate speech on Twitter.

While addressing problems related to impersonation, Musk claimed that impersonation volumes spiked between November 5 and 7 before the launch of the new Blue service. They spiked again between November 9 and November 10 in the wake of Blue launch but have fallen since.
The development came soon after senator Edward John Markey attacked Musk saying that the new Twitter boss would not be able to respond to his tweets and missed the November 25 “deadline to answer basic questions about Twitter verification.” “Congress must end the era of failed Big Tech self-regulation and pass laws that put user safety over the whims of billionaires,” he tweeted.

Musk wants to gain advertisers’ trust to restore the revenue stream which got stopped when a large group of advertisers paused their advertising on Twitter. They are concerned about hate speech on the platform and risk of their advertising appearing next to the wrong messages.
Twitter 2.0: The Everything App
Musk also outlined the ingredients needed to make Twitter The Everything App. Some of the points were advertising as entertainment, video, encrypted DMs, longform tweets, relaunch Blue verification and payments.
In various instances in the past, Musk has spoken about all these features. He recently talked about bringing encryption to direct messages, or DMs. Musk also plans to bring long videos and monetisation in order to compete with YouTube.
He also wants the Twitterati to use the platform to monetise long-form text as well. It is to be noted that long-form texts should not be confused with the proposed increase in characters of a tweet.
Meanwhile, after receiving flak for an increase in impersonating accounts, Elon Musk said he would relaunch the feature. He announced that the service will be launched on November 29 with a different set of rules.
