Emma Raducanu drops injury update as Britain’s BJK Cup squad announced
Emma Raducanu has been called up to represent Great Britain at next month’s Billie Jean King Cup finals in Glasgow. It comes as a positive sign after the 19-year-old pulled out of this week’s Transylvania Open with a wrist injury, indicating that she will be fit enough to play for her country in November.
Raducanu will represent Great Britain next month as the country takes on hosting duties for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Britain will battle it out with 11 other teams to win the tournament dubbed the ‘World Cup of women’s tennis’.
It comes as a positive update from the British No 1, who was forced to withdraw from this week’s Transylvania Open with a wrist injury, with her BJK Cup call-up indicating that she will recover in time to represent her country from November 8. The 19-year-old made her BJK Cup debut earlier this year when Britain faced the Czech Republic in the qualifier stage back in April.
She won her first match before injuring her foot and losing 6-1 6-1 the following day as Britain narrowly lost the tie 3-2 but the country earned a spot in the Finals as the hosts. Raducanu will be joined by Harriet Dart, Heather Watson and Katie Boulter, while a fifth member is yet to be announced but will likely be either Katie Swan or Sonay Kartal.

“Making my debut for team GB in April was a special moment that I’ll never forget,” Raducanu said of her call-up for the Finals. “Stepping out on court and seeing all the flags flying, all of your team cheering you on, it’s such a unique event that I’m really looking forward to experiencing again.
“Having the opportunity to host the finals in your home country doesn’t come around very often so we’ll do everything we can to make our fans proud.”
Britain’s BJK Cup Captain Anne Keothavong added : “This is a strong squad for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals and we’re keen to finish the year on a high in front of the passionate crowds in Glasgow. All four players have experience in the competition and great memories of playing for GB. We will confirm the fifth team member in the coming weeks, having this competition for places is a great position to be in.”
