Emma Raducanu ruled out of being a ‘top 5 player for 20 years’ by her own agent

Emma Raducanu’s agent has given his thoughts on her future after having a tough time following her historic US Open victory. The Brit became the only qualifier to win a Grand Slam title back in 2021 but has since struggled to find form and recently underwent three surgeries. But Max Eisenbud doesn’t think that his client will be a consistent top five player and instead backed her to do big things at the Majors again.

Raducanu made tennis history just under two years ago when she came through qualifying to reach the US Open main draw, winning 10 matches in a row to lift the trophy. She skyrocketed from No 150 in the world straight into the top 25 and became an overnight sensation.

But the 20-year-old has reached the semi-final of a tournament just once since her unprecedented victory as she tried to find her feet on the professional circuit. Raducanu is now on the sidelines after having operations on both wrists and one ankle earlier this year but her agent believes she will be able to find her Grand Slam-winning form once things settle down.

One thing he doesn’t believe, however, is that she will be the type of player who can stay near the top of the rankings for 20 years. Speaking to The Tennis Podcast, the IMG super-agent backed the former world No 10 to figure things out.

“She skipped many steps and many experiences so I’m not surprised by any of the up-and-down tennis. I think she’s shown some great tennis,” he explained. “And anyone that’s betting against her, I wouldn’t bet against her. She’s going to figure this all out, she’s going to settle in, she’s young.”

Reflecting on her special run in Flushing Meadows, he continued: “You don’t just accidentally win the US Open the way she did, you have to be great to do what she did. And I think she will settle and things will get more calm for her and I think she’ll make more deep runs and I think that she’ll win more Grand Slams when it’s all said and done.”
