Emma Raducanu shares dream of copying Lewis Hamilton after mentorship

Emma Raducanu has shared her wish of following in Lewis Hamilton’s footsteps. The British No 1 is sponsored by Porsche and is hoping to compete in a race like the F1 star. Hamilton previously mentored Raducanu when she first became an overnight sensation after winning the 2021 US Open.

Raducanu is gearing up for the second clay swing of her career, where she will play the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart. The 20-year-old counts the car manufacturer as one of her lucrative sponsors alongside the likes of British Airways and Dior.

And the world No 68 is hoping to put her sponsorship to good use, sharing her dream of racing like her “role model” Hamilton. Speaking to Porsche ahead of next week’s event in Stuttgart, Raducanu was asked whether there was anything particular she wanted to experience with her sponsor one day.

“Compete in a race with Porsche?!” she laughed. Raducanu has already been vocal about her love of F1 – especially Hamilton – and even took up motocross and go-karting as a child.

And she can count Hamilton as one of her mentors after the Mercedes driver offered her some advice following her historic run to the 2021 US Open title. After becoming the first qualifier to win a Major, she had a run-in with her role model during the Met Gala.

“At the Met Gala I spoke to Lewis Hamilton, which was really cool being such a fan of motorsport and Formula One. It was really nice to see him and speak to him there,” she previously told the BBC.
