Emma Raducanu ignored Wimbledon for Formula 1 on Saturday as she shared a snap of the qualifying at Silverstone. The 20-year-old has been forced to miss this year’s Championships after having three surgeries in May. And she has picked Formula 1 over tennis, choosing to tune into Silverstone instead of world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz’s match.
Raducanu hasn’t been able to play Wimbledon this year after having surgeries on both wrists and her ankle two months ago. It comes just two years after she made her Grand Slam debut at the All England Club as a teenage wildcard, where she stormed into the second week.
But with The Championships off the cards for the 20-year-old, she has decided to pick F1 over tennis. Raducanu tweeted a photo of her TV showing qualies at the British Grand Prix, adding three Union Jack emojis.
It came at the same time as top seed Alcaraz was in action on Centre Court and facing some trouble after splitting sets with 25th seed Nicolas Jarry. Raducanu’s love of F1 is no secret and the former world No 10 has even been able to count on Lewis Hamilton as a mentor in the past.
