Emma Raducanu surprises fans at Wimbledon as Brit spotted at All England Club
Raducanu is missing her home Grand Slam tournament this year after having operations on her ankle and both hands. The Brit had been troubled by the wrist injuries since last summer and made the decision to go under the knife in May, forcing her out of competition for several months.
It marks the first time that the 20-year-old is missing the tournament since her stunning debut as a wildcard in 2021 – when she reached the second week. But Raducanu still made a surprise appearance at SW19 on the first day of The Championships, stopping to pose for pictures with fans.
The former world No 10 counts the likes of Wimbledon sponsors Evian and Vodafone as her own personal sponsors too and was seen spending time in the water brand’s exclusive VIP suite.
Raducanu had previously announced that she would be missing Wimbledon when she first shared the news that she would be having surgery. “It pains me that I will miss the summer events and I tried to downplay the issues so I thank all my fans who continued to support me when you did not know the facts. Looking forward to seeing you all back out there,” she wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Raducanu arrived with Draper in tow after the world No 78 also pulled out of Wimbledon with a shoulder injury that previously saw him retire in the first round of the French Open. “It’s clear my shoulder is going to need time and rehab to get back to where it needs to be,” he wrote on social media.
