end to end encryption: Apple brings end-to-end encryption to Safari Bookmarks: Report – Times of India

Apple seems to have made bookmarks on the Safari browser end-to-end encrypted with the iOS 15 rollout, as per a report by 9to5Mac. The report is based on the claims of a Reddit user SoleSolace on the social platform where he mentioned that the Safari Bookmarks are listed as end-to-end encrypted on the iCloud security overview.
Here is what he has to say about the Safari Bookmarks getting end-to-end encryption.
“Previously, only Safari History and iCloud Tabs were. The update was between September 19 and September 25 (presumably with the iOS 15 release).
They also no longer specifically call out which iOS version is required for each individual service to be end-to-end encrypted. So, I’m curious if bookmark syncing works between iOS 15 and either iOS 14 or Safari 14 on macOS.“
The iCloud security page lists “Safari History, Tab Groups, and iCloud Tabs” as end-to-end encrypted. The Tab Groups could be what he is referring to as the bookmarks.
The Safari Bookmarks getting end-to-end encryption seems to be a hidden detail about the iOS 15. The list of end-to-end encrypted services and apps by Apple can be viewed by going to the iCloud security overview page. It includes data and services like Apple Card transactions, health data, home data, keychain, Maps favorites, Memoji, Messages in iCloud, payment information, QuickType Keyboard learned vocabulary, and more of them. Safari Bookmarks is the new entrant to that list.
With end-to-end encryption activated for a particular feature or a service, you have to use two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Apple ID and set a passcode on your Apple device. Apple advises users to update the software on their devices timely, use 2FA for Apple ID and use a passcode/password/FaceID/TouchID to keep their data secure.
