Chipmaker Intel will train engineering students in India in data-centric skills with its ‘Unnati’ program. The company plans to set up 100 Intel Unnati Data-Centric Labs over the next year across universities and engineering institutes in India.
Intel claims that the initiative will provide the country’s higher educational institutions with long-term capabilities in technology and lab infrastructure, enabling a greater focus on research and innovation.
Intel Unnati Program: 15 colleges and universities where it has been piloted
The Intel Unnati Program has been piloted across 15 colleges that are in the process of setting up Centres of Excellence on their campuses. The labs are already operational in 3 institutes including Galgotias University – Uttar Pradesh, OPJU – Chattisgarh, and Vinayaka Mission – Tamil Nadu. The other 12 colleges that are part of the pilot include:
1. IIIT Dharwad – Karnataka
2. Amrita University – Tamil Nadu & Kerela
3. Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT)-AP
4. Yeswant Rao Chavan Engineering College – Maharashtra
5. T John Engineering College – Karnataka
6. Marwadi University – Gujarat
7. SRM University – Tamil Nadu
8. Hindustan University – Tamil Nadu
9. LPU – Punjab
10. COE, Roorkee – Uttarakhand
11. Parul University – Gujarat
12. Kumaraguru College – Tamil Nadu
The Intel Unnati lab
Each Intel Unnati lab includes hardware and software stack recommendations from Intel, course content and co-branded course completion certificates for students. Currently, labs are available for artificial intelligence (AI), FPGA solutions and AI Internet of Things (AIIoT), with multiple other technologies in the pipeline including smart mobility and security.
Intel says that the engineering institutes will have a choice of lab variants to suit their budgets and based on where they stand in their technology and infrastructure journey.
As per the chipmaker, the program implementation is supported by a network of system integrators across India who can customise the lab configuration as per each institution’s requirements, train the faculty on course content, and provide ongoing maintenance support. The emphasis will be on hands-on experiences that build confidence among students in the use of hardware and software toolkits.
