England fans filmed throwing pints in frustration after World Cup draw

England fans at BOXPARK Croydon have been filmed throwing pints of beer in frustration after watching Friday’s lacklustre 0-0 draw against the USA. Thousands gathered at the venue to watch the Three Lions in World Cup action but were left disappointed after Gareth Southgate’s side looked second-best against inferior opposition.

English supporters were unsurprisingly brimming with confidence about their team extending their lead at the Group B summit after an exhilarating 6-2 triumph against Iran on Monday. But England produced just three shots on target and were fortunate not to concede at the Al Bayt Stadium in their second group match.

Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham were overrun by the USA’s four-man midfield featuring Weston McKennie, Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah and captain Tyler Adams. And Southgate had to rely on a monstrous Harry Maguire performance to prevent humiliation, with the Manchester United skipper making eight clearances, twice as many as any other player.

At full-time, boos rang around the stadium at the result. England fans were brought back down to earth after the highs of Iran, and those of the USA knew they could’ve and perhaps should’ve caused a memorable upset. And the reaction was just as hostile back on UK soil, with numerous supporters clearly furious with the performance.

BOXPARK in Croydon is used to being soaked in beer and other beverages during an England match for the right reasons. It has become a tradition during international tournaments for expensive pints to rain down on joyous crowds when the nation’s footballing heroes put the ball in the back of the net.

But those flying the flag at BOXPARK on Friday night were doused in lager for the wrong reasons, with many deciding to lob their pints in anger when the full-time whistle blew. World Cup fever has been halted on British shores after a woeful day for Wales and a below-par outing for England.

There will no doubt be mass uproar across social media and other coverage of England 0-0 USA. But it feels similar to last summer’s Euro 2020 group-stage draw against Scotland. England failed to break down Scotland then, but look what they produced further into the tournament.

England will look to end Group B with a flourish when they face Wales on Tuesday. The USA battle Iran simultaneously, with the second qualification spot up for grabs. How the day plays out is anyone’s guess, but it won’t take long to forget tonight’s exploits.
