Enhancements For Profile Icons: WhatsApp is rolling out enhancements for profile icons within group chats – Times of India
Last week it was reported that WhatsApp is working on an animated avatar feature. Now a report has surfaced online suggesting that the Meta-owned platform is rolling out enhancements for profile icons within group chats for beta testers.
As reported by WABetaInfo, Android beta testers with version number 2.23.15.9 of WhatsApp can now access improved profile icons within group chats. WhatsApp introduced a revision to the thumbnails of contacts whose profile pictures are hidden or unavailable. Previously, WhatsApp displayed a default empty profile photo with a colour that matched the corresponding contact name, in order to improve their identification. The updated thumbnails now display the initials of the respective group member’s name.
As mentioned above the feature is available only for beta testers and is expected to soon roll out for all the users.

Meta-owned WhatsApp is currently working on introducing an animated avatar feature. Recently, the messaging platform unveiled two new enhancements related to avatars for both iOS and Android versions. The first enhancement enables users to create their avatars automatically by using a photo, streamlining the avatar configuration process. The second improvement includes an expanded collection of avatars that are automatically made available to users who set up their avatars directly from the app settings.
