Erik ten Hag learns when Man Utd takeover process will finally end

Manchester United takeover clarity should be provided in the ‘coming days’ in a boost to manager Erik ten Hag, according to reports. The Dutchman is unable to sign any new players while Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe battle for power at Old Trafford. And that’s despite the Red Devils working on a deal for Chelsea star Mason Mount behind the scenes.

According to the Daily Mail, the takeover saga should end in the ‘coming days’.

Sheikh Jassim has made five bids for the club so far, with many fans eager to see the Qatari billionaire arrive at Old Trafford.

It is thought he will provide an update on the situation on Friday, however, having pledged to walk away if the deal isn’t right for him.

Ratcliffe seems to be the frontrunner instead, with the INEOS chief willing to let the Glazers stay in reduced roles under his leadership.

They’d then be able to sell their existing shares in the club further down the line for a premium fee.

And that’s believed to have given the 70-year-old the edge as the battle continues to cast a shadow behind the scenes.

Another possibility that can’t be ruled out is the Glazers accepting an offer of minority investment and extending their stay at Old Trafford.

Firms such as Carlyle Group and Elliot Management are ready to provide the family with money to improve some of the club’s facilities.

Old Trafford itself is in need of modernisation, while their Carrington training complex requires further work despite some improvements being made so far.

Ten Hag, like many fans, is waiting anxiously to see what the outcome will be.

But this latest update suggests an end is in sight and the 53-year-old will soon know what sort of summer lies in store.

United are thought to be working on transfer deals, despite not knowing who will sanction them in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Mount is widely expected to be their first signing of the summer, with the Chelsea star poised to leave Stamford Bridge behind.

But he’s not the only player on the Red Devils’ radar as they look to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Despite winning the Premier League Golden Glove award, David De Gea’s long-term future remains up in the air.

And though the Spain international is expected to sign a new contract with the club, Ten Hag would still love to bring in another goalkeeper.

A fresh right-back is under consideration, despite the improvements of Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United could even sign another midfielder in addition to Mount, with Frenkie de Jong continuing to be linked.

A new left-winger arriving can’t be ruled out either, with Kingsley Coman and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia recently named as potential targets.

And United would love to sign a new striker with Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen two of their targets this summer.

Meanwhile, regarding Sheikh Jassim, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed the Qatari billionaire has held direct talks with the Glazers.

“There have been, what I understand to be, in-depth conversations and direct conversations between the Glazers and the Nine Two Foundation as well,” he said.

“All signs point to the fact that the Glazers are actually getting both groups to get deep into this process.

“If they green-light one of them, they’ll be in a position, transactionally speaking, to move as fast as possible.

“I think that’s why both groups have been in the dark for so long.”
