Erling Haaland’s agent slaps billion valuation on Man City star
Erling Haaland’s agent has argued that her star client is worth around £885k (€1billion) due to his marketing value and potential. Real Madrid have been credited with an interest in the Manchester City talisman as they seek a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema but he is likely to come at a huge cost if he ever was to move.
Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm since joining City from Borussia Dortmund over the summer leaving a host of goalscoring records in his wake. The Norway international has netted a phenomenal 47 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions and is likely to rack up even more before the season comes to an end.
His scarcely believable form has naturally attracted the attention of other clubs across Europe and Real Madrid have been credited with a strong interest in bringing him to the club. Telefoot suggests that Los Blancos will look to sign the striker in 2024 as they seek a long-term replacement for ageing club legend Benzema.
However Haaland is unlikely to come cheap and his agent, Rafaela Pimienta, has suggested that her client is worth something around the £885k mark given his quality and marketability. If the transfer fee were to be anywhere near that mark a move would be almost impossible.
“For me, Haaland is worth €1billion,” she explained in an interview with AS. “Maybe nobody will pay that, but that’s the potential he has when he comes to a club. With him comes fans, goals, results, professionalism, digital content and sponsors… If you put all this together, his value is an aggregate of many things.”
However, while Haaland’s value may be near £885k he would not cost that much for teams outside of England in one year’s time. The Athletic report that he has a £177million release clause written into his contract which only foreign clubs are able to activate.
The presence of the release clause leaves the door open for the likes of Real Madrid to take advantage, as they chase the man who could well be the best player of his generation.
In the meantime, Haaland’s full focus will be on the task at hand at the Etihad as the Sky Blues go for glory in three competitions. The first hurdle will be in Germany on Wednesday night as Pep Guardiola’s men look to protect a 3-0 first-leg lead to reach the Champions League semis.
It remains to be seen what the rest of Haaland’s career will hold but it would cost a substantial amount for him to leave the north-west in the near future.
