Everton set to announce another two signings after Andros Townsend free transfer confirmed

Everton have confirmed the signing of Andros Townsend and are reportedly poised to confirm two more deals as new boss Rafa Benitez’s transfer plans fall into place.

Townsend has signed for the Toffees on a free transfer following his release by Crystal Palace at the end of last month.

The 30-year-old previously worked under Benitez at Newcastle United but departed for Palace in 2016 following the Magpies’ relegation to the Championship.

He is expected to soon be joined at the club by goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, also on a free, and winger Demarai Gray.

“I think everyone knows what Everton is,” Townsend told the club’s official website.

“It’s a massive football club, it’s very ambitious, a club which has been trying to get back to where it belongs into Europe and beyond.

“I’ll be doing all I can to help the Club do that.

“Everton is a massive football club and has big ambitions next season. As the old cliche goes, it was a no-brainer.

“Rafa is very experienced. He does a lot of work on the tactical side on the training pitch, he leaves no stone unturned.

“But more importantly, he’s a great man, a great man-manager, and he’s always talking to you. I’m sure he will be very successful here.”

Townsend is likely to be joined at Everton by experienced pair Begovic and Gray.

Begovic has left Bournemouth after four years at the club and will provide back-up to No 1 goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Gray joined Bayer Leverkusen from Leicester City in January but is already set to move on from the Bundesliga side.
