Ex-Mumbai cricketer Ranjita Rane passes way due to cancer | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: In a news which left the city’s women’s cricket community shocked and saddened, former Mumbai cricketer Ranjita Rane, who played 44 first class matches for Mumbai between 1995 and 2003, passed away due to breast cancer on Wednesday morning. She was 43.
For the past fortnight, she was admitted in the Tata Hospital for her cancer treatment. The Prabhadevi resident was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2015. She was an allrounder, who used to bowl medium-pace. Since 2017, she had become a scorer for the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) after passing an MCA scoring exam in 2016.
“She was from a very poor family. Two-three years back, I had helped her get financial help from the Siddhi Vinayak Trust for her treatment. I never played with her, but I know that she was suffering a lot, especially in her last few days. She was in such a bad shape in the end, that I would say that it was a relief to her that she passed away,” Diana Edulji, former India player and a member of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), told TOI.
Last year, she had received some financial help for her costly treatment, which went in several lakhs, from the MCA. “She played for Mumbai, Bombay University and Indian Gymkhana. She was very active and a helpful person,” former Mumbai player-turned coach Surekha Bhandare told TOI.
