Exciting final day ahead at Trent Bridge

12 wickets fell on day four of the second test between New Zealand and England at Trent Bridge, with all three results remaining possible on day five.

New Zealand ended the day on 224 for 7, taking a 238 run lead to stumps.

Earlier, New Zealand rattled through England’s lower order, bowling the host’s out for 539 to take a 14 run advantage into the second innings.

Resuming on 163, Joe Root added 13 runs before falling to Trent Boult.

New Zealand wasted no time in exposing England’s tail, as the hosts added just 66 for their final five wickets.

Boult ended with figures of 5 for 106, the tenth five wicket haul of his test career and the fifth time he has reached that mark against England.

New Zealand made a strong start to their second innings, reaching 114-2 at tea courtesy of a 111-run second wicket partnership between Will Young (56) and Devon Conway (52).

In form all-rounder Daryl Mitchell made his way to stumps unbeaten on 32, but five wickets in the final session gave momentum back to the hosts.

Debutant Michael Bracewell made a quickfire 25 from 17 balls before holing out, as New Zealand made efforts to advance the game and set a competitive total.

Tim Southee was run out shortly after for a duck following a mix up with Mitchell, much to the frustration of the seamer.

Kyle Jamieson is unexpected to take part in the remainder of the game, meaning New Zealand is effectively 8 wickets down.

If their aggressive strategy on show late on day four is anything to go by, the tourists will look to set a target early on day five before having a crack at England and going for a series tying victory.
