Fans complain Champions League draw ‘fixed’ after Chelsea and Man City

Many Chelsea and Manchester City fans are fuming after UEFA completed the Champions League quarter-final draw on Friday. Both English clubs remaining in the competition have been rewarded for their impressive last-16 triumphs with nightmare routes to the Istanbul final.

Chelsea now know they must defeat 14-time winners Real Madrid to progress to the semi-finals.

The Blues have been pitted against Real for the third successive season, coming out on top in the semi-finals before they celebrated their second Champions League crown in 2021.

Real then won 5-4 on aggregate in an instant quarter-final classic on their way to lifting a record-extending 14th title last term.

The winner of Chelsea vs Real Madrid won’t have an easy task in the semi-finals either…

In the same half of the draw, Man City will face Bayern Munich, who comfortably knocked Paris Saint-Germain out of the last 16.

It will see Pep Guardiola returning to Bavaria, where former star Leroy Sane and loanee Joao Cancelo, eligible for the tie, will be waiting.

The draw has opened up a fascinating prospect for the 2023 Champions League final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium on June 10.

In the other half, AC Milan have been drawn against Napoli, while Inter Milan clash with Benfica for a place in the final four.

One of the quartet are guaranteed to reach the final, where Chelsea and Man City would undoubtedly deserve it if they were the team in the opposite dressing room.

And unsurprisingly, fans of the Premier League duo have been left outraged by their routes to Turkey, claiming the draw was ‘fixed’ to make for entertaining quarter-final and semi-final clashes.

@MattyDavies98_ tweeted: “Tell me the Champions League draw isn’t fixed when Chelsea draw Real and City draw Bayern… #UCL #UCLdraw”
