Fantasy Waiver Wire Week 14: Elijah Mitchell, Corey Davis injuries put JaMycal Hasty, Jamison Crowder among top free agent pickups
The lack of obvious impact players in our top Week 14 fantasy waiver wire pickups and free agent adds is disappointing for this time of year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t guys who can make impacts. As more injuries (Elijah Mitchell, Corey Davis, etc.) and COVID designations (Keenan Allen) are announced throughout the week, complementary players like JaMycal Hasty, Jamison Crowder, and Jalen Guyton will suddenly take on added value. These aren’t necessarily players who need to be claimed on waivers; rather, they’re potential free agents to target after waivers clear around 4-5 a.m. ET on Wednesday mornings in Yahoo and ESPN leagues, too.
Our full free agent list has some notable depth pieces, like starting RBs Rex Burkhead, D’Onta Foreman/Dontrell Hilliard, Rashaad Penny, and Tevin Coleman, in addition to potential WR3s. However, the Week 14 streamer suggestions at QB, WR, TE, and D/ST (which can be found at the end of this list) are likely more important. There are a bunch of worthwhile defense streamers this week, and with four solid D/STs on bye (Patriots, Eagles, Colts, Dolphins), chances are plenty of owners will need one. Also, if you drafted your kicker so he has the latest possible bye, then you can finally make use of our kicker rankings.
MORE WEEK 14: Full waiver list
Barring more injury news and backups potentially emerging on Tuesday afternoon, this doesn’t look like it needs to be a big waivers week. However, that really depends on the individual teams in your league. This might be a must-win week, so owners will do whatever it takes, even if that means using a No. 2 waiver claim on a boom-or-bust WR3 type or D/ST.
You might also see owners planning ahead for Week 15 (and beyond) using waiver claims on key streamers for that week. Anything goes at this point in the season, so assess your team and your options and do whatever it takes.
WEEK 14 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker
Top fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 14
Unless otherwise noted, only players owned in fewer than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues considered.
JaMycal Hasty, RB, 49ers. Elijah Mitchell entered the concussion protocol on Monday, and it was also announced backup Jeff Wilson Jr. is dealing with a knee injury. Hasty would be next in line for touches against Cincinnati if both are out. It’s not the best matchup, but given how potent the 49ers rushing attack seems to always be regardless of who the lead back is. Hasty has potential flex value. Wilson would be the preferred pickup if he’s healthy and Mitchell isn’t cleared from the protocol.
Jamison Crowder, WR, Jets. With Corey Davis (core) out for the year, Crowder should see a bump in targets. He’s still unlikely to be a consistently high point-scorer in the No. 2 role behind Elijah Moore, but with a favorable Week 13 matchup on tap against the Saints, Crowder is a top streamer. His fantasy playoff schedule (Dolphins, Jaguars, Buccaneers) is also highly favorable, so Crowder could be a difference-maker in some weeks down the stretch.
MORE WEEK 14: Full waiver list
DeVante Parker, WR, Dolphins. Parker caught all five of his targets for 62 yards in his return from a hamstring injury. Miami has a Week 14 bye, so Parker won’t be high on pickup lists, but with a fantasy playoff schedule of the Jets, Saints, and Titans, Parker is a must-add ahead of the stretch run.
WEEK 14 PPR RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Running back | Wide receiver | Tight end | D/ST | Kicker
Jalen Guyton, WR, Chargers. Guyton is coming off a big week (four catches, 90 yards, TD), but the main reason he’s on this list is because Keenan Allen was placed on the reserve/COVID list on Monday. It’s unclear if Allen will be able to get cleared in time for Sunday’s game against the Giants, but if he’s out, Guyton would step up as the No. 2 in L.A.’s high-powered passing offense. That will put him squarely on the WR3 bubble.
Green Bay Packers D/ST. The Packers are one of about nine legit D/ST streamers this week (Broncos, Chiefs, Saints, Browns, Chargers, Panthers, Titans, Seahawks), so you don’t necessarily need to use a waiver wire claim on them. But with the Patriots, Dolphins, Colts, and Eagles on bye — plus the Bills, Rams, Cardinals, and Bucs staring at unfavorable matchups — chances are quite a few owners will be looking for streamers. We view the Packers (vs. Bears) as the top unit this week, but no matter who you like, if you really want them, you might have to pay up.
