Fashionista Lewis Hamilton brutally mocks Carlos Sainz over ‘worst-ever’ attire
Fashionista Lewis Hamilton has mocked Carlos Sainz for wearing a bucket hat at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Brit was filmed laughing with a Mercedes team member over a picture on his phone, which he then revealed was of his F1 rival.
Hamilton earned a spot on the podium in Barcelona, finishing second behind Max Verstappen. Mercedes will certainly be pleased with their team’s performance though, with George Russell completing the front three in what was the Silver Arrows’ first double podium finish of the season.
The mood in the camp was understandably high over the weekend as a result, with the official Formula One account capturing Hamilton laughing along with a member of staff at the expense of Sainz.
The Ferrari driver finished fifth in his homeland on Sunday, though it was not his racing that caught the eye over the course of the weekend. Instead, it was the 28-year-old’s decision to wear a bucket hat covered in red chillies that left his rivals in hysterics.
Hamilton laughed: “I’ve got this great picture of Carlos. I took a great picture of Carlos earlier. It’s the bucket hat. It’s the worst bucket hat ever!”
Hamilton has a keen interest in the fashion industry, releasing a clothing line in partnership with Tommy Hilfiger previously which proved to be a roaring success. The Brit also regularly attends fashion shows when he is not preparing for races, being seen at the Dua Lipa x Versace show in Cannes ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix last month.
Hamilton’s outfits upon arrival at tracks has often caught the eye, attending the Spanish GP on Saturday in a pinstripe co-ord suit in what was a played-down look by the 38-year-old’s standards. However, it was his choice of sunglasses that caused a stir among other drivers at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – with Red Bull’s Verstappen refusing to shy away from addressing the eyewear choice during a press conference.
While fielding questions from the press, Hamilton pulled out his sunglasses -speculated to be worth $241 (£193) – due to how bright the room was and how it prevented him from seeing who he was talking to, derailing the conference for a short while. Verstappen glanced over at his rival before saying: “That looks good. Maybe we can come here with our helmets on the next time.” The pair laughed off the remark before Verstappen doubled down by speculating that the Mercedes star would soon become a ‘meme’.
