Fast X Actor Jason Momoa on Why a Showdown Between Him and Vin Diesel’s Toretto Was Postponed

Jason Momoa, the villain in Fast X has given more depth to Dante Reyes in a new interview. He talked about Dante Reyes’ obsession with Dominic Toretto and how his actions in the movie are motivated by revenge. Dante Reyes is the son of Hernan Reyes, the villain of Fast Five. Reyes wants to exact revenge on Toretto by going after his family.

Momoa told Screen Rant that Reyes wants to hurt Toretto “in the worst way and take away that legacy of his.” He recalled the backstory of Reyes who comes from a crime family and had to “fend for himself in Brazil” because of Toretto who stole money from Reyes’ family and was also left without a father by the end of the movie.

He added, “I feel like if you studied someone that much, you actually want to be them. You love them, and you want to wear their skin and become that. You just kind of play it that way and, emotionally, anything can come out. It can be funny; it can be sexy; it can be scary. But at the root of it, I’m going to wear your skin.”

Dante Reyes vs Dom Toretto Fight Sequence

Momoa also revealed that there was a planned fight between Dominic Toretto and Dante Reyes in Fast X which eventually did not materialize. He explained why the decision to change it was made and how Reyes enjoys inflicting pain, making him a much more dangerous opponent for Toretto to face.

“We had a big fight scene planned for me and [Dom], and we’ve seen that we’ve done that. They don’t need to get into the showdown of fighting each other,” stated Momoa to Screen Rant. I think it’s way more interesting; he gets the kicked out of him, and he loves it. To get off on being beat up and just how he can get close to him because he’s got the upper hand,” said Jason Momoa.

Momoa said that the showdown between the two will come. He said, “showdown’s going to come and that’ll be violent, it will be violent, especially with someone who just adores pain and is probably already dead inside. It’s scary when someone’s getting off on that pain. I wanted that to be there and, through that, his humor.”

Fast X was released on May 19 globally, a day earlier on May 18 in India among some other European countries.
