Fast X: Jason Momoa’s Most Dark Scene was Almost Cut Out from the Final Movie
Warning: Spoilers follow for Fast X.
Fast X fans are particularly in love with the new villain in the movie, Dante, who is played by Jason Momoa. His new character is goofy and crazy, earning appreciation from fans all around.
However, one of the scenes that really brought out the craziness of this character was almost cut out from the final cut. Moreover, this scene was also shot completely unscripted with Momoa’s fine acting skills on full display.
Through an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Fast X director Louis Leterrier has brought some light to the situation and explained what went down. The scene in question is when Jason Momoa is talking to a pair of corpses and he casually starts polishing their nails as nothing out of the ordinary is going.
Leterrier reveals that the scene “was never controversial,” but was a very polarising scene and wasn’t scripted. The team wanted to improvise on Momoa’s Dante and show how dark and twisted his character is behind closed doors. That is why this scene was shot, however the initial thought of the team was that this wouldn’t make the final cut, instead would be used as DVD extra or in director’s cut of Fast X.
But, the team then decided to test the movie in both ways, one with the scene included and one without. Through the testing, they realized that the audience was going “crazy for it” even though some were “angry and some loved it.” Furthermore it was “studio’s Donna Langley” who gave the green signal to include this scene in the movie, as she loved the “insanity of that scene.”
