Ferdinand, Wright and co have pay rises ‘ruled out’ due to new rule
Two of England’s leading sports broadcasters are set to deny their presenters and pundits a pay rise next season, according to reports. The industry is constantly changing, with BBC Sport and ITV Sport no different from other terrestrial channels taking action.
Punditry has never been in focus as much as it is today, with star-studded line-ups significantly contributing to coverage of different competitions.
BBC and ITV boasted a roster including the likes of Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand and Ian Wright at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
And many high-profile ex-footballers work for Sky Sports and BT Sport all season round to provide expert insight and entertainment for viewers at home.
However, the nation’s top pundits have reportedly been informed that they will not be handed any pay increase next season.
According to The Sun, BBC and ITV have told their pundits that their wage packages won’t surpass a tight budget in the 2023/24 campaign.
The wage cap would leave former pros and presenters on their current earnings, but many will likely be happy to keep their jobs altogether.
The sports broadcast industry is constantly evolving, with Sky Sports reportedly axing iconic Saturday morning show Soccer AM this summer.
In March, Sky told their presenters that they must re-apply for their roles as part of a ‘restructuring in a search for evolution and diversity.’
Meanwhile, the popular BT Sport Score show, hosted by Jules Breach and Darrell Currie for the 3pm kick-offs on Saturdays, is set to be scrapped.

BT Sport is expected to take up the name TNT Sports after Warner Bros Discovery completed a reported £633million acquisition in 2022.
And terrestrial channels also face a looming threat from streaming services, who look likely to enter the running for TV rights in the coming years.
Amazon Prime has already dipped its toes into the water, offering a certain number of live Premier League games a season.
But DAZN is another service expected to be in the picture as the age of the internet grows further.
