What Happened to Marissa Marcel?

This afternoon, audiences for the PC Gaming Show got to see a new trailer for Sam Barlow’s upcoming FMV mystery, Immortality. The new title, leading on from hits Her Story and Telling Lies, will launch on PC and Xbox platforms later in 2022.

Immortality tasks the player with uncovering the mystery behind the disappearance of failed actor Marissa Marcel, whose three uncompleted movies never saw the light of day. Utilizing groundbreaking linking mechanics, the player is tasked with finding links between scenes, using props, characters, and the scenery itself to uncover the answers hidden behind Marcel’s ultimate fate.

While FMV games are renowned for their limited appeal and slight player interaction, Barlow has won plaudits for finding ways to take the genre to a whole new level, bringing in interesting and novel ideas, quality performances, and compelling mysteries to hold the player’s interest throughout. No doubt that Immortality will see Barlow once again make something special out of the genre’s limited toolset.
