The vehicle will be available for order exclusively via Volvo India’s website for a token booking amount of Rs 50,000 from July 27th onwards.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is available in the twin-motor powertrain format and will be available in a sole Ultimate trim level. Volvo will be offering a three-year comprehensive warranty on the car, a three-year Volvo service package, a 3-year roadside assistance programme, an eight-year battery warranty, a four-year subscription to digital services, and a one third-party 11kW wall box charger.

The XC40 Recharge is a luxury offering from Swedish car maker Volvo and will compete against the likes of the Kia EV6, BMW i4 and the smaller Mini Cooper SE in the Indian market.

Volvo XC40 Recharge specifications

Powertrain

The Volvo XC40 Recharge will be available with a twin motor powertrain with a 78kWh battery pack. The battery pack supports 150kW fast charging, enabling it to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 33 minutes. A more conventional 50kW fast charger could juice this Volvo up to 100 percent in 2.5 hours.

The powertrain, thanks to the 480bhp peak power and 660Nm peak torque, give the XC40 Recharge the ability to sprint from 0 to 100kmph in 4.9 seconds. The XC40 Recharge’s twin motor setup also enables an AWD set-up. The XC40 Recharge posts a claimed ARAI-certified range of 418km on a single charge.

Design

The XC40 is good looking SUV, and the electric version is no different. The Swedish car maker has retained the unique Thor’s hammer-like front signature DRL in the LED headlight, and the vertically stacked rear LED lighting system is there too. There’s a blanked-out grille and a new set of 19-inch dual-tone alloys to differentiate it from its gasoline sibling.

The XC40 Recharge is 15mm longer than the petrol XC40 and now sits a tad lower at 175mm, given the battery pack. The boot capacity stands at 452 litres and the electric powertrain has also made way for a 31-litre space under the ‘frunk’.

  • Twin motor setup with 490bhp and 660Nm
  • AWD setup with 180kmph top speed
  • 19-inch alloys, panoramic sunroof, connected car tech with Android-based infotainment

Features

The XC40 Recharges brings in a new batch of sharper and quicker digital displays from the XC60, and the central infotainment system is now Android based. A number of Google Play Store-based apps are also accessible and function via an onboard e-sim.

The feature list also includes a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a full suite of sensor-based ADAS tech with Level 2 Autonomous driving, connected car tech, powered front seats with driver-side memory and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.
