Five Nights at Freddy’s Film Gets First Look

A first look at the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie has debuted online thanks to a small teaser and character posters released by Blumhouse Productions.

Based on the original Five Nights at Freddy’s video game, the upcoming film features all of our favourite killer animatronic robots. Much like the first Five Nights at Freddy’s, the film tells the story of a new security guard who’s hired to watch over Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria at night.

The trailer clearly channels the old ‘90s Chuck E. Cheese vibe, with a sinister, retro-style training video and dilapidated restaurant adding a lot of weirdness. Character posters (below) also show each of the film’s spooky animatronics.

The trailer had leaked online over the weekend, something Five Nights at Freddy’s creator Scott Hawthorn called frustrating. “I was really dreading coming home to see what all had happened while I was away,” he said.

Five Nights at Freddy’s has been in production since Blumhouse acquired the rights to the movie back in 2017. Chris Columbus was originally tapped to direct the movie but has since been replaced by Emma Tammi after Columbus left the project.

Production has been rocky otherwise too, with one version of the screenplay thrown out as it didn’t match Hawthorn’s vision for the project. Still, it looks as though Five Nights at Freddy’s is shaping up to be a faithful adaptation of the original game. Five Nights at Freddy’s debuts in theatres and on Peacock on October 27, 2023.
