Former Alabama wide receiver gets same grade as Trevor Lawrence from Jaguars

Seemingly throughout the NFL Draft process, there was little discussion about who might be the No. 1 overall pick.

It was just always going to be Trevor Lawrence going to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While Lawrence might have seemed like the slam-dunk top choice in the 2021 class, the Jaguars seemed to have had someone else ranked just as highly on their draft board: Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

According to a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Eric Edholm, the Jaguars gave both the Clemson quarterback and the Alabama wide receiver the same draft rating of 8.0, as seen in Episode 3 of their video series “The Hunt.”

In the report, Edholm points out that at 6:51 in the video, viewers can see the 8.0 mark alongside Lawrence’s name on the team’s draft board. Before long, after the Miami Dolphins selected Waddle sixth overall, another 8.0 comes into view next to his name on the board.

Waddle looks the part of an impact talent for the Dolphins. In his career with Alabama, he averaged 18.9 yards per catch and scored 17 receiving touchdowns. He was injured and missed part of the 2020 season before he came back in the national championship game against Ohio State and caught three passes for 34 yards.

The Jaguars will get a glimpse of Waddle on the field playing against them on Oct. 17 in Week 6 when the Jaguars and Dolphins travel to London to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
