Former Twitter India head asks Elon Musk about Sushant Singh Rajput’s verified account – Times of India
The Twitter blue tick chaos seems to have passed but had its moments. Almost everyone who had a verified account saw that status taken away, unless they had paid for Twitter Blue subscription. Two days later, Twitter reinstated blue tick verified high-profile accounts as long as they had more than 1 million followers. Among those whose accounts got “re-verified” were a few deceased celebrities as well. Sushant Singh Rajput was one of them. Twitter also on the deceased actor’s profile had a pop up saying “This account was verified because they are subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their phone number.”
Former Twitter India head Manish Maheshwari asked Twitter CEO Elon Musk a question on this. “Wondering how @itsSSR verified his phone number, Elon Musk? Either you are lying or people have figured out a way to carry their phone in the afterlife.” Musk hasn’t replied to the question as of now.
Rajput wasn’t the only deceased celebrity whose account that was verified. “Verified accounts are now prioritised,” wrote Musk in a tweet.
Last month, Musk said that verified users will be prioritised in the timeline, especially the algorithm-run “For You” feed. Moreover, these verified users will also get priority in the replies.
“In the coming weeks, Twitter will prioritise replies by: 1. People you follow 2. Verified accounts 3. Unverified accounts,” tweeted Musk.
Also, according to an app researcher, Nima Owji, Twitter is extending its Manage Subscription page for celebrities who receive a complimentary subscription to Blue so that they can cancel their subscription. However, it will not be as simple as cancelling the subscription, but these users will have to contact Twitter support to cancel the Blue subscription.
