Fortnite and Call of Duty Ranked Lowest in the 2023 Holocaust Denial Report

The latest 2023 Holocaust Denial Report by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) states that Call of Duty and Fortnite are two of the lowest-ranking platforms when it comes to preventing Holocaust denial.

ADL is an advocate group that puts its efforts towards stopping hate speech and defamation towards the Jewish population. Their work includes raising awareness about the efforts (or lack thereof) made by social media and gaming platforms to stop antisemitism and Holocaust denial.

ADL’s 2023 Holocaust denial report

The 2023 Holocaust Denial Report added three major online games — League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Fortnite — to the list. However, Fortnite and Call of Duty ended up ranking as two of the lowest platforms working against the hate spread.

ADL’s Center of Technology and Society grades the platform based on how strongly, and swiftly they take measures against user-generated reports. Call of Duty scored a D- and Fortnite scored an F in their assessment for the same.

Riot Games’ League of Legends is the only platform among these three which responded to reports in a timely manner, as per the 2023 Holocaust Denial Report. However, ADL added that Riot Games “does not prohibit Holocaust denial, yet it determined the content violated its anti-hate policies.”

“Our 2023 investigation revealed that while most platforms will remove explicit Holocaust denial content for trusted flaggers such as ADL, they often do not act accordingly when the same content is reported by ordinary users,” said ADL.

ADL’s report urged the included platforms to be more “proactive” in dealing with Holocaust denial, and also appealed that they should inform users in a better manner on what they can do to stop the hate from spreading.
