Fortnite: Esports Organization 100 Thieves Announces UEFN-Powered Mini Game Alongside Project X

Esports organisation 100 Thieves has just announced that they’re making a game inside of Fortnite. This is using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) that Epic Games launched earlier this year in March at the Game Developers Conference. It allows users to create unique and customised experiences within the game of Fortnite, by using the power of the tools of Unreal Engine. Here’s more about the new video game experience from 100 Thieves.

Details of 100 Thieves’ new UEFN project

100 Thieves is creating a 3v3 bank heist game. ProjectX Chief Project Officer Pete Hawley describes as “one idea and broke it into three pieces; attack the banks, steal the money, and escape in a helicopter.”

However, this project seems to be a lead up to bigger things, or more specifically Project X. For context, 100 Thieves announced Project X last year as their most ambitious project till date. It is as a sandbox first-person shooter, that we got to see a bit of the gameplay of last year. Hawley explains that with time, around over the course of 2 years, as UEFN gets better, they won’t be restricting to “just Fortnite content”. 100 Thieves aspires to do their own “true custom content” that would end up intersecting with Project X.

“You’ve got Unreal Engine, you’ve got Fortnite, and at some point, who knows that that hybrid might become basically how we make content.”, explained Hawley.

This new video game experience within Fortnite is currently scheduled to launch on July 11. They apparently started working on the game sometime in late May.
