Forza Motorsport Shows Off Car Fidelity, Damage, And Kyalami Grand Prix

Forza Motorsport is gearing up for release this year, bringing the series back to its competitive roots after the most recent open-world and more arcade-style Horizon game. We got a fresh look at Forza Motorsport during Microsoft’s Developer Direct presentation, which had promised extended gameplay of several games on the Xbox slate.

The Motorsport sub-series has always been known for its authenticity, so unsurprisingly the presentation focused mostly on how realistic this racing game will be to the real thing. The team boasted that the physics system is more detailed than ever, with damage and dirt gathering in unique ways on each car and based on how you’ve driven it. The audio gets an upgrade too, as modifications will impact the audio. And of course it will look better than ever, with new materials and shaders, and the paints measured using a spectrophotometer to make sure the light reflections look right.

You’ll be racing along a variety of tracks as well. Microsoft says there are more than 20 environments with multiple track layouts. For the first time those environments will include the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. The 4.5km track will be the first time South Africa is represented in the Motorsport series.

According to the announcement, you’ll be able to collect more than 500 cars, and customize them with 800 unique upgrades. The team also promised 4K and 60fps with ray tracing. One thing left unsaid, though, was a release date for the game, which is slated for 2023.

The Developer Direct also promised new looks at Redfall, Minecraft Legends, and Elder Scrolls Online. One of the most anticipated games coming from Microsoft, Starfield, is said to be getting its own extended presentation sometime later.
