Chelsea interim boss Frank Lampard insists he has no regrets about returning to the club for a disastrous second stint in the dugout. The Blues’ troublesome season is stumbling to a close, but Lampard has delivered a slice of fighting talk ahead of Saturday’s trip to AFC Bournemouth.
Chelsea travel to the south coast in 12th, level on 39 points with Bournemouth after a woeful period under Lampard.
A defeat at the Vitality Stadium would be their seventh on the bounce, matching a club record set in 1952.
Lampard, who Everton sacked in January after entering another relegation battle, has lost his last 10 games in all competitions.
The 44-year-old is the first English manager to achieve such an unwanted feat since Arthur Cox in 1988.
And while he doesn’t regret attempting to steer a sinking ship at Chelsea this season, he admits he will carefully consider his next role, with his stock currently at its lowest.
Lampard said: “I have no regrets. But maybe I will think in a certain way, differently, when I move on. I don’t want to be an interim manager in my next job.
“I haven’t got regrets. I’m very happy to be here working and absolutely will work until the last point to do anything I can to help.
“Did I expect us to fly up the league? No. Did I think I could hopefully make some change that might be lasting change? Yes.
“At the minute, the results are not saying that, and that’s fine. That’s football.”
Lampard has faced adversity en masse in all four of his managerial terms at Derby County, Everton and Chelsea.
However, he believes he has enjoyed ‘success’ after pursuing ‘big challenges’.
