French Open 2021: Barbora Krejcikova continues fine run on clay, knocks out 5th seed Elina Sviotlina

World No. 6 and 5th seed Elina Svitolina was knocked out of French Open 2021 in the women’s singles third round after a straight-set defeat to World No. 33 Barbora Krejcikova on Saturday. Svitolina lost 3-6, 6-2 in just an hour and 39 minutes at the Philippe Chattrier.

Barbora Krejcikova’s dream run on the clay court continues as the Czech player has been in fine run, stitching an 8-match winning streak. She had won the WTA 250 clay court event in Strasbourg earlier this month.

Barbora Krejcikova will face former finalist Sloane Stephens of the United States in the pre quarter-final. It will a tough test for Krejcikova but the win against Svitolina, an emphatic one, should hold her in good stead.

Stephens advanced to the fourth round of the French Open by beating 18th-seeded Karolina Muchova 6-3, 7-5.

Muchova had 23 winners compared to 22 for Stephens but the Czech player made 32 unforced errors to 25 for the unseeded American.

Stephens lost the final at Roland Garros in 2018 after winning her only Grand Slam title at the US Open the year before.
