There was a terrifying moment on day two of The Masters when a massive pine tree fell down with patrons rushing to the scene to check for anybody who was injured. It was long predicted that incremental weather would hit Augusta on Friday and play was suspended on a number of occasions due to the threat of electrical storms.
But play had to be suspended once more when a huge tree thumped to the ground by the 17th green.
TV cameras caught the moment the tree smashed to the ground with spectators rushing to help anybody in need of aid.
Commentators were left stunned while one caddie standing on the 17th green couldn’t even look as the tree came crashing down.
The TV commentary team said in shock: “Ooh good gracious, watch out! Oh my god, I hope everyone is okay. Holy smokes.”
The feed was momentarily cut as course volunteers attempted to clear the scene with Augusta once again evacuated due to the bad weather.
The Daily Mail confirmed that miraculously nobody was injured from the scary incident.
The trees in that area of Augusta are said to be Loblolly Pines, which can grow as high as 115 feet.
Images from the aftermath showed just how lucky everybody was to avoid being hit by the huge tree with chairs stuck underneath it.
Tree surgeons were quickly called on the scene to try and chop it up with play suspended.
It’s still unclear whether the players will go back onto the course at Augusta due to the weather.
Sky Sports reporter Ali Stafford said: “There’s a sense of confusion right now in the press building, with people looking on at the various weather apps to try and work out whether there will be any more play today.
“There’s also concern over the patrons that were around the back of the 16th green and 17th tee, where multiple trees have fallen, although thankfully nobody has been injured.
“Staff are out on the course trying to remove those, but this will take some time.”
