Tyson Fury will spar with Croatian puncher Alen Babic ahead of his third fight with Derek Chisora. Babic has a very crowd-pleasing front-foot-heavy style and is the perfect like-for-like sparring partner to emulate ‘Del Boy’.
During his three-year stint as a professional, Babic has won all eleven of his fights with ten of those coming by way of knockout. Similar to Chisora, Babic never takes a step backwards and is constantly in pursuit of a stoppage.
His no-nonsense style has secured him decent wins over the likes of Eric Molina, Shawndell Winters, and Mark Bennett. In his last contest, Babic made his debut at the newly erected bridgerweight (224lb) weight class in a WBC silver belt contest against Adam Balski. Babic won the bout on points and is now next line to face sanctioning body champion, Oscar Rivas.
As he prepares for the toughest test of his career, ‘The Savage’ joins Fury in camp down at Morecambe Bay. Speaking about how the sparring came about, he told Seconds Out: “They called me yesterday ‘oh do you want some work?’ They see my style is similar to Chisora’s. They’re right.
The pair previously fought each other in 2011 and 2014 with Fury winning convincingly on both occasions. Babic expects a similar result when they square off next month but believes that Chisora shouldn’t be counted out completely.
“I’d pick maybe Tyson Fury because of his awkwardness because everybody would pick him. But you can never count Derek Chisora out. You saw what he did to [Oleksandr] Usyk in the first round. It was ‘wow’. So, he can do the same to Tyson Fury,” added Babic.
“The fight is perfect for both of them in their stages of career. I think it’s perfect fight. They are on a bit of a downward spiral, but they match perfectly. Like Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali, the third fight. It was the best fight I ever saw.”
