Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have until April 1 to come to an agreement for their proposed undisputed fight. With negotiations continuing to stall, the WBA has declared that they will order Usyk to defend his belt against Daniel Dubois if the deadline is not met.
Fury and Usyk are still going back and forth on the financial side of the deal despite three months of discussions to get the contest over the line. Fury came out and declared that he would not take the fight unless he was given a 70 per cent lion’s share of the prize pot.
Meanwhile, Usyk’s side is arguing that they deserve at least 60-40 after budging on an even split. Just before negotiations had begun the WBA ordered Usyk to defend his WBA (super) belt against mandatory challenger and regular champion Dubois.
However, the major sanctioning body chose to delay the order to allow Usyk and Fury time to negotiate the four-belt shoot-out.
But now WBA president Gilberto Mendoza has come out and declared that they only have until April 1 before the WBA re-orders Usyk to face Dubois. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Usyk v. Fury update: @WBABoxing deadline to receive signed bout contracts is April 1st. Otherwise, the Dubois mandatory negotiations will be ordered.”
