Garnacho could be about to end the Man Utd careers of three players

Alejandro Garnacho is currently the toast of Manchester United following his majestic performance against Aston Villa on Thursday night. The Argentine came off the bench to change the Carabao Cup clash at Old Trafford, providing two assists as the Red Devils fought back to make the next round of the competition. Now, the spot on the left wing certainly looks like his to lose…

Manchester United had gone into their rematch with Villa on a low after losing to Unai Emery’s side on Sunday.

A repeat initially looked to be on the cards when Ollie Watkins struck the opener after a drab first half at Old Trafford.

United were able to immediately equalise through Anthony Martial, on just his second start this season, but Villa then regained the lead courtesy of an own goal from Diogo Dalot.

Garnacho, however, ensured the tide turned.

Marcus Rashford drew United level again before the 18-year-old registered assists for both Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay in the closing stages.

With the teenager now looking like an undroppable asset at the club, Express Sport now takes a look at three players who may struggle to save their careers in Manchester if he continues to produce the goods.

Man Utd transfers: Ten Hag is going to sign his own Haaland

Amad

Amad is out on loan at Sunderland this year, with the Ivory Coast international starting to show his best form over at the Stadium of Light.

But with United so well-stocked for forwards, Garnacho’s electric form can be forgiven for worrying him.

A deal for Amad was agreed in the closing stages of the 2020 summer transfer window, with the player then arriving from Atalanta a few months later.

Yet while he scored an impressive header against AC Milan, he’s often struggled for action.

United know they need to get better at selling players and it’s feasible Amad will be shown the door in the hope the club can get back as much of their £40million transfer fee as possible.

Facundo Pellistri

Facundo Pellistri’s agent recently stated a departure for the United star was gathering pace.

It was unclear if he was referring to a loan or a permanent exit for the Uruguay international, who moved over two years ago.

But Garnacho is yet another obstacle when it comes to Pellistri, who has struggled with injuries during his time at Old Trafford, making the first team.

The winger has, still, not made a single appearance for the first team.

And with Pellistri set to be at the World Cup this winter, that’s likely to give United a perfect opportunity to put him on the market.

Ten Hag’s advice to Garnacho

Speaking after United’s win over Villa, meanwhile, Erik ten Hag hailed Garnacho but warned him he must keep working hard to stay in the team.

“It was good that he came on and showed that performance and had that impact in the game, to be able to assist, make the dribbles and run behind,” Ten Hag said.

“There are some things he has to improve, for instance when we go long to go for the second balls.

“He still has things to learn but quite obviously we are happy with his development and he can contribute to the team.

“It depends on his approach, his attitude. When he keeps working then yes, it is possible (for him to play more). He wants to improve every day. He has to do the right things in his lifestyle. He has the capability.”
