Gboard tests the ‘Flick input sensitivity’ setting: What is it and how can it be useful – Times of India

Google has started testing a new setting for Gboard users on Android devices. This new setting is named “Flick input sensitivity” which is different from swipe/glide typing. According to a report by 9to5Google, this control is not for swipe typing, although the description provided by Google is very generic. The Flick input sensitivity setting has been added to the current beta version of Gboard, which is 12.0.07.457705062.
Gboard ‘Flick input sensitivity’ setting availability
As per the report, the new Gboard setting was available after version 11.8. The feature seems to be running on Pixel and Samsung devices that are running Android 11 and above, the report mentions.

Moreover, this new setting is currently available for Japanese keyboard users and Google hasn’t shared any official details about when this tool will be made available for other languages. Users can find the new “Flick input sensitivity” option at the bottom of the “Preferences” section in the Gboard settings.
Importance of Gboard ‘Flick input sensitivity’ setting
This setting will help users to set a “Sensitivity level for sliding input” with five increments — low, mid-low, normal, mid-high and high. The report also states that there’s no difference when gliding between the five levels. Currently, this Gboard setting is available only for the Japanese keyboard.

Moreover, the report also suggests that Gboard will also directly show the preference toggle if a supported language has been added. However, the wide appearance might just be during the beta testing phase and the tech giant might change it ahead of a stable launch, the report claims.
