Georgetown College Vice President of Athletics, Brian Evans, did not have to look to far to find the school’s next baseball coach. 2012 Georgetown graduate and long-time assistant, Randy Guite, has been chosen to lead the program into the future.

Coach Guite takes over for Micah Baumfeld, who recently departed for another opportunity. Despite being a California man at heart, Guite has called Georgetown home for more than a decade.  He first came to GC as a player in 2011. In that year, he set a school record with 14 sacrifices, a record which stands to this day. He followed up in 2012 earning All Mid-South honors by carrying a .357 batting average.  From there, Guite immediately stepped into coaching at GC as a graduate assistant under Baumfeld, ultimately working his way up to recruiting coordinator. In nine years on staff, Guite helped lead the Tigers to 283 wins, 3 appearances in the NAIA National Tournament and an appearance in the 2014 NAIA World Series. In that time, the Tigers also had 49 players named to an all Mid-South Conference team and earned 10 MSC Gold Glove Awards.

When the head coaching position opened, Guite jumped at the chance. “Georgetown College has been my home for the last 10 years. It’s done amazing things for me off the field, on the field,” Guite explained. My fiancée is a former Georgetown Tiger as well. We’re just stoked to be part of this program, and to be at the top of the program is really a dream come true. Georgetown College is really the only place I want to be.”

Vice President of Athletics, Brian Evans, noted his own excitement when Guite expressed interest in the job. “I could not have been happier when Coach Guite called me about being our next head coach. When the job opened, we were hoping Randy would be there with that interest and he was, which made the process an easy one. It was a no-brainer for us. Randy is the perfect head coach for Georgetown College baseball.”

Georgetown College president, Dr. Rosemary Allen, was also pleased with the announcement. “At Georgetown College, we take special pride in our alumni who earn the role of head coach. Randy Guite was an all-conference student athlete in baseball and started immediately upon graduation in 2012 on our coaching roster. He has been an outstanding coach and recruiter, and he has now developed an impressive plan for guiding his players to success as competitors, students, and citizens. We are confident that he is prepared for the head coaching role, and we look forward to seeing him knock it out of the park,” says GC President Rosemary Allen.

With the school year approaching and the roster taking shape, Guite discussed the prospects for Georgetown Baseball in 2022-23. “We are excited about the team we have coming back on top of the recruiting class coming in. It’s going to be a very competitive Fall, which is a good thing. The more competition you can create, the better you’re going to pan out for that Spring. I think it’s a good mesh of character on top of actual talent. Each day we’re going to build and try to become the best team we can be.”
