Gerrard offers Kane transfer advice with Man Utd circling Spurs star

Kane became England’s all-time top scorer on Thursday night with a trademark powerful penalty in the Euro 2024 qualifier with Italy. Amid speculation that he could make a switch at club level, Liverpool icon Gerrard believes it is time for the 29-year-old to move on.

Man Utd have been linked with an eye-watering summer bid for Kane. Reports suggest they could offer goalkeeper Dean Henderson in a high-profile swap move to sweeten the deal.

“It’s an incredible penalty, it’s precise, takes the side-netting off. He’s one of the best penalty-takers in the world. That’s why it was such a surprise what happened to him in the World Cup,” Gerrard told Channel 4’s coverage of England’s clash with Italy.

Unprompted, Gerrard then proceeded to offer transfer advice to Kane, adding: “You’re talking about greatness, you’re talking about one of the best number nines in the world right now and that’s the reason why every transfer window he’s ahead in terms of all the talks because, you know, maybe it is time, maybe it is time for him to move on.”

Kane attempted to leave Spurs in the summer of 2021 but a £100million bid by Manchester City was swiftly turned down by the north Londoners. The prolific attacker went public in his desire to move to a club where winning trophies was a stronger possibility.

Come the summer, Kane will have just 12 months remaining on his contract. That will give him more power when it comes to negotiating a move, although there are unlikely to be many suitors aside from United with Man City having since signed Erling Haaland.
