Gladiator 2: Ridley Scott Cut An Extremely Brutal Scene from the Original Movie
Ridley Scott’s Gladiator was a movie that showed us the horrors of the Colosseum first-hand. The movie managed to gain a boat load of fame thanks to the spectacular moments and Russell Crowe’s captivating performance on the silver screen. Fans are now rejoicing as it was recently announced that a sequel to Ridley Scott’s iconic movie has set a release window of 2024.
On the topic of Gladiator 2, some intriguing details about the original movie have recently been revealed through a report by Screen Rant. As the report goes, it seems as though Ridley Scott decided to remove an extremely gory scene from the final cut of the movie. However, it wasn’t cut for the reasons you would expect.
The scene sees Maximus, played by Russell Crowe, wandering under the Colosseum, where he comes across some lions that were being sent into the battlegrounds. He looks into the battlegrounds and sees a mother and two children kneeling. The lion slowly approaches the mother and kids, touches them with its paw, that’s when Crowe turns away.
The rest is left to interpretation. When Ridley Scott was asked why this scene didn’t make the final cut, he said that the scene wasn’t as impactful as he wanted it to be and seemed very passive. He wasn’t able to shoot the actual lion attack, therefore decided on not having the scene at all.
