Despite registering a decline of 3% on a quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) basis and 7% on a year-over-year (YoY) basis, MediaTek’s remained on the top spot. Counterpoint says that MediaTek shipments will further decline in Q4 2022 due to order cuts from major Chinese OEMs due to ongoing customer inventory adjustments, global macroeconomic conditions, the weak China market.
“LTE SoCs will decline more than 5G SOCs in Q4 2022,” the report said.
Qualcomm grabbed the second place with 31% market share, with a 2% growth on QoQ basis and 4% increase in share on YoY basis. The report said Qualcomm shipments will also decline in Q4 2022, due to global macroeconomic conditions, the slowdown in consumer product purchases, and weak demand from Chinese OEMs.
Snapdragon will have a 100% share of the Samsung Galaxy S23. 1H 23 will continue to be weak due to higher inventory and a weak China market. H2 2023 will see growth in the market,” Counterpoint report said.

Apple came in third with 16% share in the global smartphone SoC market with a 13% increase on QoQ basis and 1% increase on YoY basis. The market research firm believes that Apple chipset shipments will increase in Q4 2022 due to the launch of the iPhone 14 pro and its variants with A16 bionic.
Unisoc’s market share was 10%, which is down 1% on a QoQ basis. The market share of Unisoc was the same (10%) a year ago. Unisoc shipments are also predicted to decline in Q4 2022.
Samsung Exynos came in fifth with a 7% share – a decrease of 1% on YoY basis and an increase of 2% on YoY basis. “Samsung shipments will decline in Q3 2022 due to the loss in share to Qualcomm in the Galaxy S22 series. The Q4 2022 will be weak also 2023 will be affected by a lack of premium refresh,” Counterpoint Research noted.
