Gmail widget on iOS gets the most useful update – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The Gmail widget on iOS just got a useful update. Google has started rolling out a new productivity update for its apps on iPhone and iPad. With this new update, the Gmail widget will get a home screen widget and Google Meet app on the platform will also get a picture-in-picture mode.
The company quietly removed the original widget last year and now the new Gmail widget will show more information like the subjects and senders of the emails. As reported by 9to5Google, the new widget will be rolled out for everyone in the next few weeks. This also means that the new Gmail widget in iOS will have the same functionality as the one on Android.
The new widget will consist of the profile picture placed in the top left corner, whereas the compose icon is placed at the bottom left.
Apart from the new Gmail widget, Google has also added support for Picture-in-Picture mode in Google Meet. The report mentioned, “PiP is also coming to the integrated video calling experience in mobile Gmail over the next few weeks.”
Lastly, the tech giant will also bring an update to Google Sheets. The update will add support for shortcuts. “Shortcuts make it easier to complete common and advanced tasks on Google Sheets using a small keyboard — like selecting a whole row or finding and replacing certain values.”
Recently, Google announced that it is bringing back the popular compose button to Gmail.
The button was removed in April this year for users of Chat in Gmail on the web. Currently, a small red button at the right side of the ‘Mail’ dropdown menu provides access for writing a new email. The wider button will now appear above the ‘Mail’, however, according to the image shared by the company, the button will not have a four-colour ‘plus’ icon from the Material Theme design era.
