Gmail certainly is the most used email client today, but it isn’t alone in the space. There are other options like Yahoo or Outlook/Hotmail/Live which people still use. But, Gmail being the default email app for Android, it also offers better integration and services like spam management, security, tab management and more.
In addition to that, the Gmail app on Android also offers users the option to use other email clients like Yahoo and Outlook in it. And, to make it more user friendly or let’s say Gmail-friendly, Google introduced the Gmailify feature for the app. So, what is this feature and how does it makes using other email services better?
What is Gmailify?
Gmailify is Google’s way of bringing Gmail’s features to other email clients. When an email address, other than Gmail, is added to the Gmail on app or web, It provides users with the option to Gmailify.
Once an email address is Gmailify-ed, Google transforms them with Gmail features like spam protection, inbox organisation and more without changing the email address. The feature brings all the bells and whistles of Gmail to a non-Gmail account. It is somewhat similar to porting to another network without changing the phone number.
How does it make using email services better?
Gmail is the most used email client, but it certainly isn’t the gold standard. Other email services also offer an almost equal set of features and management to users. However, Gmail does have the ‘Google’ advantage and brings added features like spam protection, automatic email sorting (based on type (Social, Updates, Promotions), faster search with advanced search operators and better notification on mobile.
As most users today have a Gmail account, they are more familiar with the feature and interface. Transforming an old email account with Gmailify into a Gmail-like interface will make things much easier for them.
But, do note that the Gmailify feature is only available for Yahoo and Outlook email accounts.
