Golden Sixty cleans up at Jockey Club Champion Awards
Hong Kong superstar Golden Sixty has been feted at the Jockey Club Champion Awards on Tuesday night, collecting four gongs including the prestigious Horse of the Year title.
Francis Lui Kin-wai’s five-year-old completed the perfect season with seven victories from seven starts, including four at Group One level, to extend his remarkable winning streak to 14.
His performances in the Hong Kong Mile, Stewards’ Cup and Champions Mile ensured he was crowned Champion Miler, while his victory in the Hong Kong Gold Cup was enough to give him the honour of Champion Middle-Distance Horse.
Unsurprisingly, he also secured the bulk of the public vote to be named Most Popular Horse for the second successive year.
The John Size-trained Hot King Prawn won the Champion Sprinter title, his maiden Group One victory in the Centenary Sprint Cup and his success in the Group Two Jockey Club Sprint enough for him to collect the prize over Wellington.
Panfield, from the Tony Millard stable, claimed the Champion Stayer award on the back of his win in May’s Group One Champions & Chater Cup.

Hong Kong Derby hero Sky Darci was named Champion Four-Year-Old, one of two awards for Caspar Fownes, who was also presented with his Champion Trainer trophy.
David Hayes’ talented youngster Fantastic Treasure collected the Champion Griffin gong after securing five wins and going through the campaign undefeated.
Another young gun, the Size-trained Courier Wonder, won the Most Improved Horse award, starting off the campaign on a rating of 52 before rocketing up to 107 after saluting in all five of his starts, his last in the Group Three Sha Tin Vase.
Joao Moreira was crowned Champion Jockey for the fourth time, while also securing the fan vote to earn the Most Popular Jockey of the Year accolade.
Former champions Beauty Generation and Exultant – who shared the previous three Horse of the Year titles – were given Lifetime Achievement Awards for their “great contributions to Hong Kong racing”, while Japanese superstar Almond Eye was voted by the fans as the most admired overseas horse.
