GoodNotes finally comes to Android, thanks to Galaxy Z Fold5
The most popular note-taking app on iPhone and iPad has finally made the leap over to Android, and it’s all thanks to the latest foldable phone from Samsung. Yes, the award-winning GoodNotes is now available to download from the Google Play Store today.
Founded back in 2011 (one year after then-CEO Steve Job announced the iPad) GoodNotes has gained a passionate userbase of roughly 19 million monthly users over the last decade and change. Apple crowned the note-taking software with its vaunted iPad App Of The Year gong back in 2022, but Android users were left jealously looking on.
Until now.
Yes, Samsung has struck a deal with the critically-lauded productivity software to bring GoodNotes to the Google Play Store for the first time. The partnership was announced alongside the reveal of the fifth-generation Galaxy Z Fold.
The latest-generation foldable arrives with a redesigned S Pen stylus, which is now thinner and lighter than its predecessor. S Pen has an astonishing 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, which is perfect for annotating screenshots, signing PDFs, writing notes, sketching ideas, or doodling during a particularly arduous meeting.
Samsung offers its own note-taking app as standard with Galaxy Z Fold5, but GoodNotes offers a number of additional features, like the ability to record audio from a meeting while you’re taking notes. After the fact, you can revisit the audio synced with your notes – so you can replay the exact moment you jotted something down.
While still in beta, GoodNotes lets you write, highlight, and erase notes – or move and resize your handwritten notes on the page with the lasso tool. The app arrives with an expansive library of paper templates, including planners, to-dos, squared paper, dotted paper, and much more.
At the moment, the GoodNotes beta is limited to Samsung-branded tablets with screens 6-inches or larger, with at least 3GB of memory. That includes the Galaxy Z Fold5, thanks to the tablet-like pliable screen that unfurls like a paperback. GoodNotes will be free during its beta trials, although we’d expect to see it launch with similar pricing tiers to iOS later this year.
At launch, more devices will be compatible with the award-winning software.
The upcoming foldable by Samsung, set to release on August 11, has shown that Android devices are one of the best for professionals who need to jot down their important notes and let their ideas flow.
The new device is also perfect for note-takers who need to write everything on-the-go thanks to its immersive 7.6inch display.
The Galaxy Z Fold5 is also extremely well-suited for users who absolutely love multi-tasking. The Z Fold5 features the most advanced multitasking experience on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone yet and lets you keep three windows on one screen, so you can take notes, stream, shop, browse and more.
The Z Fold5’s also task bar holds up to twelve apps at once — now keeping four of your most recent — so you can effortlessly swap between the ones you like to use the most including Goodnotes.
And with the handy S Pen, taking notes and planning out your day is a breeze as it works seamlessly with your Galaxy Z Fold5.
It’s also Samsung’s most portable S Pen for Fold yet and comes with a compact case so when the ideas flow, reach for S Pen to write, scribble and jot with precision your hands could only dream of.
You also don’t need to worry about running out of juice when the ideas come flowing, thanks to the massive 4400mAh battery in the Galaxy Z Fold5. The phone is set to launch on August 11 and time is running out to get your pre-orders in for the Z Fold5.
And the good news is we have compiled a list of the best Galaxy Z Fold5 deals, so you can make sure you can save money and enjoy a new device simultaneously.
That’s not the only device launching in August with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Z Flip5 releasing on the same day.
We’ve also compiled the best Galaxy Watch 6 Classic deals and the best Galaxy Z Flip5 deals if you want to explore the new range of devices by Samsung.
Goodnotes is a note-taking application that launched in 2011 exclusively for iOS devices which allows you to take handwritten notes and annotate PDF documents.
It is completely free to download for iOS devices and allows you to create your first 3 notebooks for free. After that, it costs £9.99 which includes unlimited notebooks, handwriting recognition and allows you to import documents via email.
It is currently in beta for Android devices – specifically Samsung tablets and foldable devices that are 6 inches or larger with at least 3GB of memory.
It’s currently free to use so if you decide to buy the Galaxy Z Fold5, you take notes for completely free on your device. There are still some limitations to the app but this is set to change in 2023 when the full version releases.
